The spirit of self-righteousness and negligence to God’s word

DH and I have been talking about our differences. ‘’It is so annoying that you wake up so early and so energised’’ – he said. ‘’Research has found out that such type of people is called A-people and has a defected gene. But B-people who stays up all night and sleep during the day are the right type of people’’ – he proceeded. I smiled and replied: ‘’is this a joke’’. He looked at me seriously while fumbling with his mobile phone and said – ‘’I can find the report’’. At this point I have gotten very disappointed. How can he believe such non-sense? – I thought and walked away.

It is here where I started to realise that we as human being are so vulnerable in our believes. And let me tell you something brothers in Christ, being vulnerable in our believes is not a good thing for us as people. It is a life condition that can destroy our existence. This is one of the reasons why the first commandment tells us to honour and believe in God above all. This is our healthy choice.

But how do we become vulnerable in our believes, anyway?

One of the main causes is because of the spirit and sense of self-righteousness and neglecting the truth and the light in Jesus Christ sent from God our Father in Heaven for our own salvation.

The self-righteous believes in everything but neglect believing and trusting in God.

The self-righteous know it all and no one should make the attempt to correct his/her ways.

The self-righteous accommodate his/her believes and perceptions to his/her own convenience and delight.

Jesus teaches us in John 9:4 that the day is for working and the night is to knock-off from our activities and duties, saying: “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.’’ This word is for every humankind on earth.

There is no such A and B or else other type of people. God has created us all to work/function at daytime and rest at night-time. However, when self-righteousness and other threatening spirits encourage us to changed the rules to our own convenience and to feed our concupiscence, addictions, bad habits, fears, worries, and you name it. Then the night becomes the hiding place to feed our sinful body to produce and nourish the fruits of the flesh. Jesus said in John 11:9-10: “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

But being self-righteous can wear us down so let us stop being negligent to the Holy Spirit of God and receive Jesus’s invitation today: Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew11:28-30).

And when Jesus steps in ‘’The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light (Romans 13:12)

The spirit and sense of self-righteousness is a time bum that can destroy many lives. Let us pray to God for help in this matter through Jesus our redeemer.
