Be Ye Holy (1Peter:1:16) (a powerful message by sister Priscilla Shirer)

A little about Shirer before we dive in to her evangelisation. She was born December 31, 1974. She is an American author, motivational speaker, actress, and Christian evangelist. Her father is Dallas mega-church pastor Tony Evans and her brother is Christian entertainer Anthony Evans.

So let us read along...

There is one thing that invites the favour of God in our lives. That one thing that will open our spiritual eyes, ears, and hearts so that we don’t miss God’s blessings upon our everyday lives. That one thing is God’s Holy Spirit on us.

And there is a difference between the Holy Spirit in us and the Holy Spirit on us. The Holy Spirit in us is giving to us as soon as we reborn by accepting Jesus as our saviour and redeemer. The Holy Spirit on us is when that given Holy Spirit is allowed to be plated, rooted, and fermented in our lives. And when this happens, then we are on our way to holiness.

Shirer put it this way - ‘’There is one thing that attracts the presence of God to rest on our lives. And it is holiness. Plain-out, old-school holiness […]. But if we do not choose to walk in ways that are incongruent with the word of God. If we do not choose to walk in a way that honours God, then we are wasting our own time and will not reach holiness. And it is painful to see our new generations more interested in impressing people on the social media than walking before God. It is because of our pride and egocentrism that we are more interested in receiving the applauses.’’ –

Dear God help us to acknowledge this and rectify our ways. In Jesus Holy Name is ask you this great favour.

Shirer says that he Holy Spirit on us is what makes us responsive and aligned in accordance to God’s purpose in our lives. It is the call to learn and rely on Jesus throughout our daily Christian journey. It is the choice made to be holy.

Holiness attracts the power of transformation in the Holy Spirit to us. Paul invites us to live holy before God. ‘’I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.’’ Romans 12:1-2

Peter gives us a hint to holiness in 1 Peter 3:8-18: ‘’Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

And finally, Paul reminds us of God’s promises to those who choose to live in holiness: ‘’Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.’’ 2 Corinthians 7:1

God bless you all. And let us pray for each other so that we may hold hands and live together as one and in accordance with God’s will for our lives. Christ Jesus died and raised to give eternal life. He will guide us and strengthen us through for ever and ever. In Jesus Holy Name, Amen!
